Now that I have my 69 SCJ motor broken in I would like to replace the valve cover gaskets (used rubber on them and the pan on assembly-good thing had the pan off twice !)

I need to know what CORK gaskets are avail (and if they have locating tabs and the staples).

If the only way to not get the printed blue (of say a Felpro) is to use generic cork and install staples I need to see or know what size and where they go.

I can paint them to mask the printing.

Mark

P.S.  This is a late 69 428SCJ with the finned Alum covers

Can't recommend a gasket maker that has all the tabs in the right location. Many are making their own tabs and gluing them on or doing same if they need to relocate.

Never seen an original set of aluminum valve covers with the gaskets stapled to them - the tabs are shaped differently and of course the material is much thicker.

BTW remember to paint the valve cover gaskets silver before you install them ;)

The Felpro ones have the tabs. They are a cork (or at least look cork) Don't worry about the blue stripes as you should paint them silver like Jeff mentioned

Ok

Trading 8 rubber oil pan gaskets for a set of cork valve cover.

Pan  has been changed to cork (but painted Ford Corprate Blue)

THanks,
Mark
P.S.  Picking up Engine today (want to get in garage before leaving for SAAC)

Tim - do they line up with the cut outs on an FE??

Just did this on a Windsor and out of maybe half a dozen suppliers none lined up on all of them :(

Fel Pro makes both a rubber and a cork valve cover gasket; be sure to get the one with the "C" in the part number for cork.  I can't look it up because I am not home.  They fit the VC cutouts pretty well IMO.

Honestly I'm not sure. I've never had to deal with it as the FE covers don't have the cutouts

You are locked in 68 ha ha. I believe they don't match up completely with the cut outs on the 69/70 aluminum valve covers. You have to glue some tabs on as Jeff suggested from some that have been taken from a donor set. Bob

You mean they used FE's other than 67/68?   ::)
