Title: Steps to painting 69 Mach 1 hood
Post by: Bring Sally Up on April 08, 2017, 11:57:23 PM
Hi guys. Just wondering what the correct way to paint the flat black hood and cowl on my 69 Mach 1. I'm painting the car it's original Aztec aqua but I'm using base coat clear coat. So I'm wondering how to get the flat black while using gloss clear for the aqua. Thanks

Paint the car with the clear then add the low gloss black out detail to the hood and cowl. Remember that in most cases the small pin stripe does not go all the way to the opening (gap between the hood and cowl cover.

Sure your painter will likely shot a test panel of the paint, clear and black to make sure they play together well  ::)

So your says no paint the car and let the clear cure fully. Then go back and prep the areas that are going black. Re tape the car and shoot black.

That would ne closest to matching the way it was done at the factory using your modern paints.
