Early K code Mustangs had this longer spacer, rather than the later short spacer according Mannell's book and the period ford parts books. The markings on this are similar though to the later one. Also according to the period Ford parts book, there is no fan shroud when this spacer is used. I was told by the owner who acquired the car in 1973 that there was no fan shroud on the car when he bought it, and that he added the one that's on it today.
There is only one other original car that I have looked at with documented ownership history that had this spacer and no shroud - and the second owner of that car told me that he replaced the original spacer with a short one. Both cars are Dearborn 09F planned build date cars.
Anyone have any evidence of this setup with longer spacer and no fan shroud?

3.02" so the books say. What is different is that the manfacturers mark on this oneyt? looks like the later HiPo marks. 64 1/2 v8 cars with A/C use the same lenghth spacer, but Mannel states in his book that there are no markings on spacers of this length.

I see, so the key that this was off of a HIPO is that it has that unique makers mark?? Very interesting. I suppose the 4 denotes 1964 production?

Remember, fan spacers lengths are measured overall, including the fan pilot pin. Don't measure mounting surface to mounting surface.

I really have no idea what the 4 means. Only that the mark is similar to what I have seen on the shorter hipo spacer. Hoping that someone else might shed some light on this whole spacer shroud thing.

I would add that, it makes sense that without a shroud you'd want the fan closer to the radiator...and that is supported by what's in the parts books, but i was looking for some documented examples.

Can't help on the shroud issue but IMO the "4" is probably a casting mold number. On original 2.36" HiPo spacers I have seen the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, and nothing.

This is a short fan spacer that I've had for number of years and I'm really curious if it could be a Hipo?. It has a 2 under the Fomoco script on the pilot pin. It also looks like it measures 2 1/16 inch?

I can't confirm if 64 12 is different then the 65 and 66 hipo spacer . Reply #7 @ 2.36 is typical for 65 and 66. Measured from flat side of the base to the tip surface of the pilot pin. 2.36 is a little more then 2 and a 1/4 . It appears your spacer is a little short. Brant at Virgina sells a repro hipo space that is pretty spot on.

It looks closer to 2 1/16 - 1/8" then anything. Who knows what it came off of but it is closer looking than what I am currently running on my clone GT 350. ;D I'll put it to good use, interesting topic.
