I just noticed there is a hole in the interior side of both rocker panels. This is an Oct 2 schedule build SJ fastback so it has the vinyl cover on the inner rockers.
What was the purpose of this hole? I never noticed them on my November and December schedule build SJ Mustangs.
First picture is driver side. The next three are passenger side.

Looks like maybe something a previous owner did? Or maybe part of rust-proofing like ziebart?

It's possible but I saw this hole in another picture here. I stole it from Mr. Speegle's post in the general discussion. I added a red arrow to show he hole in almost the same spot as mine (first picture).
The next two pictures are of my '65 coupe (5R07T162 schedule build date November 30 (30L)). It also has the holes.
I have a hunch these holes are normally covered by the vinyl or carpet and some past owner of my fastback just cut the hole in the vinyl for some dopey reason.

Looks like it matches up with pics from other cars, but I haven't seen a hole through the vinyl like that.

+1 Never seen holes through original vinyl pieces
Not sure why an engineer designed it into being or its purpose. Guess they would want the cavity to be vented but its just one of a number of holes in the subassembly

I can't tell on mine if there is a hole or not. These were taken 2 years ago when I added the vinyl back to my car

Possibly a fixture registration hole.
