Engine and Transmission Mounts

I am not sure this is vehicle specific topic so I'll post here first. I understand engine or trans mounts vary by application so that isn't any question. WHERE to BUY is the question. A Concours Corect insulator portion only

Original or NOS OEM mounts are almost impossible to find (all year models) Is there any recomendations on where to obtain usable used or acceptable reproduction mounts?

I am looking for 67 289 and C4

I have always restored the ones that were with the car or found better originals. This may not be the best idea if you plan to drive you car hard but works just fine for a occasional driver- show car.

  Engine mounts for 1967 small blocks are unique to 1967. I don't know why Ford did this, they did not have a better idea. The frame, mounts and brackets have their holes drilled at different angles and no other year works. You are forced to use your old ones or find a better set. The irony is that late 1966 are interchangeable with 1968 thru 70 small block engine mounts. The C4 transmission mount is the same as other years and is available aftermarket or sometimes on e-bay.

Originals for the engine are long gone, I have the replacements (circa 1979) with the lock-type, cannot break kind. Good used condition, but not OE
The trans mount is broken OE.

The Mustang engine frame stands used in 1967 are the same for both 289 and 390 engines. Ford continued using thse stands, but only for the 390 / 428CJ engines until 1970 on Mustang and Cougars. Ford changed to the 1968 style of engine mount, or insulator, which was shared with Ford and Mercury mid sized cars that also used 289/302/351 engines. This is why Ford had to change the frame stands to what we call the 'small block frame mounts'. Mid-sized would be Fairlane, Torino, Montego, Comet, Ranchero, etc. I think that the later style of small block rubber mounts had a casting number of C6O ... ?, and then a D0O number starting in 1970.

C7ZA-6038-E is the casting number found on the OEM Ford 289 engine mounts for 1967 Mustang or Cougar.

Richard asked about the small block brackets and associated insulators but I will keep the big block application in mind. However, a question - being the 66 and 68- on, brackets, frame mounting hole placement and insulators are almost identical in form and fit (I used a 68 small block bracket set on my Oct build 66 "A" code Hardtop), how can the frame mounting holes for 68 and on big blocks be the same as for small blocks if they are different for 67?

You have that wrong. 1967-70 big block and 1967 small block frame mounting brackets are one in the same. This bracket creates a specific angle that cradles the engine. The angles created are different on the small block 1967 and small block 1968-70. I don't know about 1966 brackets or mounts.

To the original poster: You can also broaden your search to include 1967-70 convertible engine mounts, to replace your 1967 289 Mustang mounts.

Here are some comparison pictures of 66/68 and 67 small block engine mount brackets. The 67 brackets are on the left in all three pictures. For 67, the holes in the frame are located different, the brackets are different and the insulators are different. That answers the questions posed by Richard.

I just corrected in the Original Post, what I was asking about. I have my original 289 frame mounts so there was never a need for replacing them. I needed to replace the insulators since mine were aftermarket (though in usable condition, slightly sagging)

Since the original post, I have found a couple sets of fairly weathered original engine mounts (for the '67 289 I am working on) but I haven't decided them to be worth the asking prices (yet anyways)

I have found a good transmission mount and ordered that one.

The additional information posted has help explain a lot of the "why" and "what" is different between the years of 66-70 so that will very likely help others, as well as myself, to make good choices . Many online parts houses do NOT list the 67's and the convertibles as being different from the other applications mentioned. 

Thank you Scott & Jim for helping. Jim... your pictures DO HELP, but noticing the dfferences can be difficult at a quick glance.
