What is the correct black finish on a yellow top coil?
« on: April 29, 2017, 02:06:25 AM »
I've searched this forum and checked other references on the web and am getting conflicting information regarding the black finish on a yellow top coil for an early 65 (September 64) Dearborn built Fastback with a 289.  I have a good used yellow top coil (year unknown) and the black finish is beat up pretty bad but appears to be semi-gloss black.  Can someone confirm this or give me the correct finish?

Originals ive seen have been Semi gloss though most reproductions seem to be on the flatter side..

I have had countless originals and many NOS ones with various dates that spanned production from 64 - 69. Semigloss black is the best way to describe the finish . With that said there are variations in gloss that ran the spectrum of what you would call satin to semigloss. As long as it is some kind of semi gloss you should be fine.

Anybody know the MCA rules on coil finish?

Not every little detail is spelled out in the MCA rules. Often the descriptions are limited to new details ( to remind judges)  things that have been an issue or indicate some variations unfortunately often without details for their original application
