Gold air cleaner and valve covers....normal?
« on: May 25, 2017, 08:07:21 PM »
Thanks for checking this out.

I'm looking to purchase a '65 convertible. The air cleaner and valve covers are gold in color....is that normal?

Thanks in advance!

A 65 289 should have a black block, with gold valve covers and air cleaner. The gold color was a deeper shade in early 65, and became lighter by late 65.

So if I'm seeing a different '65 C code with blue block, air cleaner and valve covers = not correct?

Either they repainted the motor wrong or that is a motor out of a 66.

You may be able to tell the engine assembly date by looking at the left hand front of the block by the distributor at an extension used for attaching a water pump bolt. See pictures. The numbers are stamped into this extension by the inspector (or the assembly guy) in this format, 5H23Z: year - 5; month - H (January is A); day - 23; inspector - Z. The assembly date should precede the scheduled build date (from the door data tag) by at least a week (more likely longer). Post the car's VIN (use xx in the last two numbers for security) and we should get you close to that date.

I looked it over today, and I think I'll grab it....a nice stable mate for the lime gold '67.

Thanks in advance!

Might want to double check the VIN.  There shouldn't be a G in the 5th digit for a '65 model.

Edit: Just saw where you said it was a C-code motor.  I'm guessing the G was a typo and should have been a C.
