5 or 6 bolt bellhousing
michaelvonlanthen:
I am wondering if I have the correct engine for my 289 V8 D-Code engine. I am unsure, since someone who inspected the car told me, it would be a 6 bolt. I have searched a bit in the internet and compared pictures, I guess it is a 5 bolt. Can someone please verify?
thanks a lot, Michael
CharlesTurner:
D codes should be 5 bolt. (all generator V8's)

For your own peace of mind, check the casting part number behind the starter (it should be C4OE-6015-?) and the assembly date on a pad near the distributor, see the attached.

Thanks Charles and Jim,
I guessed, we can determine it by the form/design of the bellousing. I will check the casting part number next time in the garage.

Another method for a quick check is to measure the distance (just has to be rough) between the two upper block to bell housing attaching bolts
