1994/95 Original Factory parts identification
« on: April 14, 2021, 11:54:58 AM »
The 94/95's are now up in the 25 year or older category where some folks are trying to restore them.

I wanted to start this thread so that if folks have or are seeking original 1994/1995 Ford factory "as built" parts, it will serve as a future reference.

Attached find the images for the original factory 1994 Distributor cap and associated ignition wires as installed by the factory. These are from my 1994 Cobra, stored with other stock items I removed. The same set was used for the 1994 GT. If restoring a 1994, the wires are specific to the year by the date stamp found on the wires.

If you can find an original set, expect to pay in excess of $150.00+, as these are long obsolete and were never available through the regular Ford Parts channels (Dealers or Ford Racing); they were only a factory assembly line supplied part.

FEEL FREE TO CONTINUE THIS THREAD! Pics and part #s (if applicable) will help all.

For those interested, this is an original Ford 1994 Cobra Flywheel (same used in the 1995 Cobra). This is directly from my 1994 Cobra and is original to the car as built.

This flywheel was only available on the 1994/95 Mustang SVT Cobras. Per the original 1994/95 SVT Cobra brochure, this flywheel was designed and matched to the 1994/95 Cobra rotating assembly, as it was lightened by 2.7 lbs.

It was not available through Ford Motorsport or eventually Ford Racing, which has now become Ford Performance. Many people think that the Ford Motorsport/Racing 50 oz Flywheel of the time was/is the same as the 1994/95 Cobra flywheel, it is NOT.

This flywheel was only available through Ford directly or through a Ford Dealership Parts Dept. if needing a replacement. It has not been reproduced (yet), it is no longer available through Ford or Ford Parts and has been obsolete for years now.

Also to note, this was not used in the 1994/95 GT. The 1994/95 Cobra flywheel and 1994/95 GT flywheel are not to be swapped or interchanged.

I have taken (2) pics to clearly show the physical aspects, teeth count, the original Ford part number and other misc numbers cast into the flywheel.

If you find one available used - expect upwards of $150-$200; dependent on overall condition, providing the surface on the clutch side is not badly scored and does not have stress cracks.

If you find NOS example, expect upwards of $350+.

I have never cross referenced the Ford part number so as far as Ford documented history is concerned, this was a one-off flywheel (unless anyone can refute the facts).

The paint marking on/near the teeth is original to the flywheel.

I'm including the part of the original 1994 Cobra Dealer Brochure which touches on the flywheel fact (last sentence of document).

Here are images of the original 1994/95 Cobra specific oil cooler unit, engine to cooler adapter, steel lines, rubber hoses and the factory clamps.  Oil cooler unit is pictured showing the front, back and side of the unit; it has original Ford part number decal that is for the housing only.

Attached are images of the original 1994 (and 1995-98) Cobra specific Sylvania L & R headlamps.  Pictures show detail as to original molded part numbers on front lenses and rear of assemblies.  Cobra headlights also had specific bulb retainer rings that were different from the GT or V6 models - these are also seen in the images.

I never knew that the Cobras used a lighter flywheel than GT's. Interesting fact there. However, a lightened flywheel just allows the engine to rev a little faster as it has a little less mass to turn. In this case the lightened OE part it has nothing to do with crankshaft balancing, that got handled by the harmonic damper on the front of the crank. OE 5.0 (pushrod) H.O. engines, including Cobras, are 50 oz (as was stated above) and externally balanced and the flywheel has nothing to do with that.
