painting package tray
« on: March 04, 2010, 09:47:33 AM »
Painted my package tray and it turned out splotchy looking. I thought this might happen with the material they are made of.... is there something you can spray on first to give the final paint a more uniform appearance?

I use SEM primer in the can.  Good coverage and great adhesion promotion.  Grey, black, red oxide, or green.  Gives good results.  The Masonite these trays are made of may as well be sponges.  They can eat an entire can of spray and give you that Appaloosa look.

Hi

It also helps to sand the surface with fine sand paper. But take care not to sand off the original texture. Only to loosen up the surface a little to make the primer stick better.

wipe down with acetone or other solvent before painting.
