66 A/C hoses NOS
« on: August 21, 2014, 12:12:51 AM »
Hopefully someone can help me out with this one.  I have enough freon for one more R-12 recharge remaining, and I want to replace my shiny aftermarket A/C hoses with either NOS or something more correct than what I currently have.  3 days on the phone and I can't even find a retailer who sells anything other than Classic Auto Air hoses.  (What I have ).  Scott Drake apparently sells a concours version , but they have no idea which retailers sells them.   Help please!

Try National Parts Depot https://www.nationalpartsdepot.com/store/ or Virginia Classic Mustang http://www.virginiaclassicmustang.com/ No guarantee as to correctness but they have good reputations. Both stores have members on this forum.

These vendors, and actually all that I've called, use Classic Auto Air hoses which are super shiny and smooth.  I would to see a set from Scott Drake somewhere...less gloss more alligator texture.
Thanks though

About your only option here is good used originals.  I've only ever had 1 NOS hose for a '66.  I have some of the aluminum lines with correct ends.

and that NOS AC hose now resides on the other side of the world with a NOS 66 air con kit ;D :)
Thanks for both Charles.

Why not get someone in the refrigeration industry to make you up a set??

Jim,
Try this guy out:
http://www.allclassicmustang.com/1966MustangParts.html
Says he has an NOS 65/66 Discharge hose. Not sure which you are looking for. Pricey but Charles is right, ANY are pretty rare to come across. I cruise eBay quite a bit on weekends and don't recall seeing them really at all.
We're still getting by on our originals (changed out both service valves new, 6 years ago), had 1.5 lbs of R12 refrigerant added in and it's still holding up very well. Doesn't get used very much in WA however...!

I'll keep an eye out for you in the mean time. One never knows...

Believe I paid my guy in Southern CA ~$75 a pound for freon 6 years ago too and I believe he gave me a bit of a break on that. Good guy. Miss his shop and expertise but glad I haven't needed him!

Thanks Lance.   R12 in Florida is through the roof IF they will part with what they have hiding!   I back ordered a set of Scott Drake concours hoses from CJ Pony Parts.  I may get the NOS discharge hose anyway just to have it.  My guess if I mix them, the re-pop one won't look right!

You may be right about that. I've never had the opportunity to inspect the repro hoses first hand. Guess I'm surprised they aren't closer in appearance, especially coming from Classic Auto Air, where they have to be a resource everyone tries at least once. Not sure who supplies them or where their source is that they use. Maybe Drake will come through on them too, if that's another possible source. Let us all know how this developes for you. Be valuable to know your observations & experience and keep in our collective "back pockets"!
