To me friction tape is synonymous with an adhesive cloth tape. 
I guess you never played hockey -  ;)

Nope.  I take it that it is non adhesive?   The better question is have you seen it used on a wiring harness?

Here is what I've seen on 67s.  Picture 1 cloth adhesive tape to join parallel harnesses. Pic 2 cloth adhesive tape to hold plastic retainers, not too common though. Pic 3 adhesive vinyl tape at the loose end of vinyl ( no adhesive) wrap.  Sometimes I see cloth adhesive tape for this but vinyl to cloth is about 75-25.

Looked through some of my 67 San Jose pictures and I have a number of examples with vinyl tape holding the T to the outer jacket and at the end of the plastic wrap

They are all built prior to the July build date though. Latest right now in the 7R188xxx range
