67 NJ rear license plate light dust shield install
« on: July 29, 2015, 05:12:00 PM »
I just discovered my painter didn't install the rear license plate dust shield. Probably because I had it. Luckily It was stored in a zip lok bag. It's a little stiff. I think a  Armor all soaking will help.

I have the diagram on installation, but it's not clear.

Is it fastened w the light screws? Can it be done w bumper on?
Thanks,
Gimpy

No it's screwed to the body (taillight panel). License plate light is held to the rear bumper

Can it be done w bumper on?

Maybe but would not try. Going to be very difficult to get a screw driver on those screws

Would not use Armor all on it - that will dry it out and likely lead to cracking since its a silicon product

Just me but I've not purchased or used Armorall on anything.  Many of the reproduction products will void their warranty if its used on things like seats or door panels. Has tire side walls crack deeply by the use of the stuff.

Thanks Jeff.
Any suggestions on what to use to soften shield? It came off my 67 around 1991 and has been in box of misc. parts since then.
