Post by: 1966KGT on January 09, 2017, 09:52:40 AM
anyone have positive experience with re-sewing a headliner? my ginger head liner has a spot coming unsewn, otherwise perfect. can't find correct replacement.

On my '69 I have the same thing of the the sewing thread breaking, so I'm going to just have it resewn. Can't see a reason to scrap the head liner just because of the thread coming apart. I think it would be wise to redo all the rod pockets so it doesn't rip in a different spot.

I'm not a headliner/ vert top guy, just wondered if the age of headliner would prevent repair, its the one it was born with, ginger, no re-pops with correct grain. car is bright gold metallic, ginger interior, built 1/70. 351c 4v- 4 speed

You might remove the headliner - have a shop as a backing along the edges to be sewn and then have it resewn. Would be good to use a backing of similar color if available and glue it to the original material

Sure a traditional shop could redo each seam this way much like repairing original seats

Just a thought
