Title: 66 Grille

I just sent my Grille horse and corral out for re plating. I have a rivet to replace on my grille.Before I straighten out the grille I have a few questions. First question relates to identifying an original grille. I repainted this grille last year and was under the assumption it was the original grille however I'm not positive. Are there any features or part numbers stamped anywhere on originals that would help identify an original ? Also when I repainted it I replicated the paint process that it had at the time. Were the cross bars black behind the corral? I have seen NOS grilles that do not have that area "Blacked out" and originals that appear to be painted black behind the corral.

yes, a black rectangle of paint behind the corral.

Does anyone know if there is a faithful reproduction of the corral attaching nuts. Ive seen a few different styles and haven't been able to determine which is correct.

Want to see if I can get some opinions on my current grille. Im fairly certain it is a reproduction however I don't have a original to compare this too. any thoughts? I don't want to spend any time restoring this if there is a chance its not original.

This looks very consist with my 1966 mustang GT HiPo Metuchen built grill that I believe is also original.  I had Fred Ballard look at several pictures, which I've posted here, and he believes it to be original too.  I welcome other opinions.  The only difference with mine from yours is the GT Fog Light Brackets that say "TOP L" and "TOP R" on them.  This was the only verbiage I found on the grill.  The brackets that hold the two halves of my grill together appear to be pretty aged so I believe it original but hell this could have been a reproduction part from the 70s, 80s or 90s.  I'm also missing several rivets like yours.  I too am wanting to restore my grill.  My kar was built 23 Oct 1965 and I understand from a previous post by Charles Turner that Ford had used three different colors in production year 1965 to paint their grills.  I need someone with the knowledge to know when and where these different colors were used.     

Note:  You can also see were someone replaced the end brackets with screws/nuts to replace broken rivets.

I replied to your other post.  65 is honeycomb.  66 only had one color, black...
