Hertz cars
« on: August 13, 2009, 03:32:11 PM »
Just as Hertz purchased GT350's in the sixtys - Hertz corporation purchased SVO Mustangs in 1985 for use in the fleet.

Delivered to TX DSO -mainly around airports finding a Hertz SVO starts with tell tale signs of etched glass and wheels with the cars VIN.

This is a folder for such cars

The first picture is of the window etching on the drivers door.  The second picture is the etching on one of the wheels.

Hertz etched all the windows including the sunroof, windshield and wheels.

The funny thing about this find was I had no idea it was a Hertz rent a racer until I mentioned on
the SVO Club Of Americas forum that the windows had the vin etched onto them,  what a riot that
turned out to be, that thread ended up getting over 2500 views and created quite a neet topic for
a while, Ken Potter knew it was a Hertz Rental just by the Etching and the vin #.
It turned out to be one of 5 in white.

I have tons of pictures for anyone else wanting to see them.

P.S.  This car needs a new home. :-)

Vin #'s 176244 and 176245 are also white and have been found. 176245 is the highest vin number of the white ones.   Vin #'s 1476214-176220 were also white and inside the 40 consecutive vin numbers thought to have been ordered by Hertz. I own one of the 4E's. Here is a picture of my Hertz and my 4E 86 comp prep.

I also found the template made from Mylar that was used to put the vin on my car. I found it in the door when I had the door panel off. I had to make one for my winshield since it had been replaced.

Were goign to start to see comments from OTHER Mustang owners when they see the lenght gone here for SVO's !!!

Kendal - I know you have researched the VIN's of the Hertz cars - Would you post here yourself?  It was your research, so you should get to post and retain.

Mark, here is what I have. I do not have any proof, but so far every car found in this batch of vins has been a Hertz Rental Svo. It is interesting that they are in groups of 5 except the 10 4E's and two sets of 5  9L's.

Just a little update.  The last 40 vins before the 85.5's were the Hertz cars.  Also a Black one has turned up in California.
