speedometer/water temp etc needle color for 64 1/2
« on: February 05, 2018, 03:07:03 PM »
Hi early Mustang specialists,
my shop is about to restore my car. they say that the color of the needles in the instrument cluster should be a orange for a 64 1/2 Mustang. As you can see in the photo, in my case it is more a red. Which color is correct for a July 1964 Dearborn car? Maybe someone has a good photo of it. thx.

A few years ago when I restored my 66 cluster I thought that someone sold the actual paint for the needles. Mine had faded to a light orange color. From what I could tell (where the needles hadn't faded) it wasn't quite orange but not quite red either. I ended up mixing some model paint to as close as I could to the undamaged area of the needles. Was always happy with it but was wondering this myself.

I've mixed fluorescent orange and red together to get what I thought was the closest match.

I've heard Testor's model paint orange, with a 289 in the number is an excellent fit.  A google search found "FS28915 fluorescent red paint".
