My 1970 Boss is currently undergoing a rotisserie restoration and are nearing the painting process. My painter went to our local PPG dealer to purchase the Ditzler DDL 9423 low gloss black for the under hood / engine compartment paint. He was told that code is no longer available and they can't mix it! I knew the "textured" low gloss black was unavailable and we have located that product from TP Global fora fairly decent price. Can anyone tell me if you have had this problem or anyone else and if so, what did you end up using in its place. ????? Thanks in advance.

Ditzler 9000 is the engine compartment black. To my knowledge it didn't change. My Shelby is painted in what I replaced it with. ( link below) The results speak for themselves, and it will certainly look good for much longer than the single stage. Also consider that some locations simply don't allow sales of certain paints.
A forum member just went through this in New Jersey with Ford Corporate blue. I located it for him here.

Keith, Thanks for the quick reply. I am located in SD and we don't have any serious environmental issues that I'm aware of, however...... I'm off to the painter for a consultation and see what we end up with. Again, I appreciate the help. Now, if I can just remember where all those bolts came from...... :)

The 1970 assemblyline manual set and the companion AMK guide to fashioners may not have all of the answers for bolts and finishes but probably most. Best of luck with your project .

sfltjerd@302 ,
I just ordered Six quarts today. You post had me worried. Only 3 quarts on hand. Factory Pack DDL 9423 low gloss black. 78.00 quart plus UPS. Have your shop contact PPG for supplier in your area. Still the best product for color and sheen in my opinion.

Is the DDL 9423 a lead containing product ?

Yes - I've been unable to get that for years - have had to settle for LF formulation

The LF formula also doesn't hold up nearly as well. Even the Red Oxide Primer is a LF ( Lead Free) product now. The LF formulation does poorly around heat especially.

Thanks Bob for the post. I passed your info on to my painter and he said he will take care of it. The info from this site has been invaluable! Best money I have ever spent. I'll try to get some photos posted as I go. Thanks again to all who have helped out. JM

I asked my PPG store to order some. They have 6 on the way. I'm taking at least 2 of them.
PM me for details if you are interested. I'll connect you with the store & you can handle the transactions unless they will not ship it, I maybe can help. Pretty sure this will have to stay "domestic" since overseas interest are not likely to "fly".

Interest is there, but the problem is shipping paint to Europe :'(
Let me know if you know how to ship overseas.
Thanks

Write to these people and see what they have to say:
https://www.myus.com/blog/can-i-ship-dangerous-goods-internationally/
I cannot vouch for them, I know nothing about them but this came up in a Google Search. If somebody else does the "customs forms" I can do the local purchase and basic packaging following whatever procedures necessary. A fee might apply if I need to purchase anything outside the ordinary packaging.
