Hi,
I am restoring 1970 Boss and looking at photos of rear axle diff centre housing am trying to figure out what the numbers mean. I have seen 980A and 982A along the axle housing but on the diff centre I have seen numbers 23, 25, 26 & 31. What do they relate to. I am from Australia and any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Phill.

Those number likely match what was on the buildsheet and on the metal tag. If your thinking about applying a similar paint mark on a car you are restoring please accept that not all of the factories applied that writing so IMHO do not copy paint marks from other cars.
Know allot of original Boss cars that we've not found those on
You could be leading others in the wrong direction also.

As to the double digit numbers: 23,25,26, and 31, I believe, are the casting mold ID's. Brian

I thought he was referring to numbers applied with paint (paint marks) - Just my understanding
