66 Tires
« on: January 21, 2017, 09:22:52 PM »
I just wanted to get some input on some tire choices. Im looking to purchase a set of "Show" tires for the upcoming season. Ive been over all the options many times. The plan is to mount my radials on some SS wheels and put a set of bias ply on my steels. From what i can tell the GoodYear Power cushion is only available in a 7/8 white wall. Id prefer the Goodrich Silvertowns purely based on the looks of the tire. This tire is available in the correct 5/8 white wall but has the Pie Crust edges which I prefer the look of. Given these two choices would I be better off with an incorrect sidewall size with a more correct looking tire or a correct sidewall size with a non OE looking tire? Ive only shown at regional MCA events and plan on AACA driver class this year. I guess I'm mostly interested in what would be more generally acceptable. At the moment I'm leaning toward the BFG's for the correct sidewall size. I feel that is probably more important due to it being a more specific change in 66.

The most common OEM tire then would have been a Firestone with pie-crust edge, so the BF Goodrich is probably the closest match.
