Air cleaner

Saw this for sale, it's listed as a genuine 66 air cleaner.....
I have never seen an air cleaner with a tapered
Snorkel. Is this a mustang air cleaner, if so what is the deal with the taper ?

You will see that style being used on larger cars and on engine such as a 67 390 Mustang though I would guess that the base is too tall for that application

Similar to a galaxie or the like air cleaner of that era. My fathers 64 galaxie has a similar air cleaner with the tapered snorkel although i believe the center comes off of his rather than the entire top.

I recognize as a Ford or Mercury application down to the shield/baffle in the inside. That plate was mentioned in a TSB article and a Shops Tips issue
