1966 K_GT on ebay
« on: February 10, 2017, 11:18:44 AM »
Does anyone here know this car?  Ivy Green 1966 K-Code GT convertible for sale in Scottsdale. This is the second time in a few months that it has been for sale.  The photos show a really nice car, not perfect but no flaws that would be show stoppers, at least from the photos.  I was wondering if anyone here knew of this car or its history. Thanks

No! No! No!
All this car has going for it is that it is a convertible and has a "K" in the VIN. Everything else is suspect (distributor, fuel pump to name a few).

Given it is a Metuchen built car I would want to see the buck tag to help establish it is a factory GT.  There is a photo from the drivers side of the car looking down at the engine where you can see the buck tag on the driver's side near the hood hinge (odd placement in my experience).  I agree that the engine would need to be thoroughly evaluated to ensure it is actually a K code and if it is determined to be a K code that the engine matches the car (there a lot of visual cue red flags on the engine that have already been mentioned that would warrant a close evaluation of this car).

Regards,

Ron

That was where my January 66 buck tag was located: on the driver's side fender top near the hood hinge.

Thanks Midlife - learned something new today.  I concentrate more on 65's. I didn't realize that's a known location for a 66 buck tag.  Thanks!

My Oct 65 Metuchen car has the buck tag on the passenger side. I recall there was a buck tag thread last year and forget if there was a change to driver side at one point or if it was random

The car did not sell.  The high bid was $38 but the reserve was $69.

and it is being sold through this site now:

It's a good looking car and I sure do find myself staring at the photos....wishing a little bit too...

The first e-bay link is bogus, so scroll down for more. There is a "history".

It takes me 16 hours at least to appraise a mustang for a client, most of that time is research and viewing the videotapes.  I will find that the car is honest or a remade pig.

The cars tell a story but you have to dig and after a while, the whole picture becomes clear.  Date codes on the glass and other parts is important.  The hardest part is finding accident damage because those Ford Dealer trained body men knew their stuff and had good parts.  I count welds and their locations on the floor pan on the video, some sellers put small dents and dings to make it look factory.

I don't know why a few body plugs are missing on honest cars, I assume the factory didn't install them.

It looks like the Autolite 4100 is rigged to operate like a double pumper?

Looks like they lost the arm to the secondary diaphragm.

Couple of details I'm seeing look like a legit hi-po 4100, but I wouldn't say for sure.

It's a nylon arm. Ford changed from a metal arm sometime in 1964-65. The diaphragms are different too.
I took a quick look at mine and between the garage and the computer, I don't see any difference except the inlet, I have a filter there.
