Locating dealer
« on: February 21, 2017, 07:15:27 AM »
Hi all,

I'm trying to locate the Ken O´Keefe Ford dealer that sold my 66 Convertible back in oct. 65.
From another 66 convertible a friend has found on the web, we can see that this car was also sold by Ken O´Keefe in feb. 26th 1966. From the golden card in the lower left part of the pic you can see 28A-002, that I was guessing what stands for it.? I can also read in the bill of sale, see red circle, 3-623. 36 was the DSO for Louisville, but in the warranty tag  in this pic it shows 28. I can't find DSO 28. So, do anybody know which could be the dealer number for Ken O´Keefe..? Unfortunately they are not in business anymore...

Josep,

I see now that I can enlarge the photos. Notice that the document is a State of Kentucky document, not a FoMoCo document. Therefor the dealer number, 3-623 is most likely a number issued by the State of Kentucky and has no relationship to any Ford numbers.
The 28A-002  is on an official Ford OwnerCard so I would say that this number is a number assigned to KO'K by FoMoCo.

That has a lot to do with what carlite65 states. What I notice here is that the other car sold from KO´K has a DSO 28 which carlite65 says it was changed sometime for the 36, but my car has a lower VIN and DSO 36 and the other car has a higher VIN and DSO 28.! Why being my car older could have the newer DSO code..?
Should my car could have a code like 36A-002..?

Some dealers are bought and have a name change. If it's important to you, find Ford dealers in the area and ask. There's another possibility, they change brands - Ford to Dodge as an example. The local dealership I bought a couple of cars from, was passed from father to sons, who wanted to expand, so he bought another dealership in another town and kept the new dealership's name. He sold that dealership which resulted in a new name. When Mercury went away, they took over the surviving Lincoln portion and have another new name. They do remember their roots however, so they can say "Since 1940". It's business.

Google is your friend.

http://youneverhadyourcar.tumblr.com/post/10302887532/my-grandfathers-dealership-circa-1966-ken

I GOOGLED the map location using the address at the link above...No signs of any dealership in sight!

I used the address for my vehicles sales history (Marti Report sourced), that dealership had changed names, took on the Datsun (Nissan) brand and eventually as already mentioned, built a new facility, joined with Chrysler & Jeep and at last report a few years ago, vacating the old building

Downey Ford where mine was sold closed in 2008. When my dad called in the mid to late 90's the son had taken over but they did not keep records. The building was torn down a couple of years ago (2014 or 2015). I think a Starbucks is there now  :(

Thanks guys for all your responses, but my believe is KO'K shut down business some time ago.

The thing here is what carlite65 stated, If they swapped DSO numbers from #28 to #36 why my car has the supposed new #36 DSO if it was older, (sept. 65), than the other car scheduled build date feb. 66..?
If you try to decode the warranty plate, DSO #28 or #36 states the same, Louisville. The matter here is when did they do the swap, and which rules do they took to change the DSO.

So, #36 ended on 12-31-1965 and #28 started on 1-1-1966..?
Otherwise I am confused.

The Dealership number is obviously #002 for the area of Louisville, Kentucky...... Which is the #002 Dealer under the Number 28 DSO Location..  I don't know what the "A" Designation is though....as it may just refer to the area...  On Most Ownercards, The Dealer Code would appear as "28A002", or "28002" .... Both are normal correct formats as the Dealer Code.  I would leave the "A" in there as found.... Interesting that this dealer chose to use a hyphen between the DSO and the Dealership number... as most don't.  It may have just been the idea of a Secretary working in the office doing all the paperwork.  So if the DSO Code changed at the beginning of 1966, One could surmise that the correct Dealer Code for your car at the time of sale in 1965 would have been "36A002" or "36002" as was probably written on the Original Ownercard for your car at the time of its original sale...as I heavily doubt that the Dealership Number #002 would have changed.

PS: The Original Selling Ford Dealership of my 1966 Mustang Convertible was called "Cape Canaveral Motors"...and then changed to another name in 1973, then again to the name it wears today which is "Kelly Ford".  The Dealership is still there today selling Fords and Shelbys here in Melbourne, FL.. Though the Original township it sits in of "Eau Gallie, FL" was dissolved in 1969, and morphed into modern day Melbourne, FL.

Tony,

If they had assigned DSO #36 for Louisville till the end on December 65, and then swapped to #28 for 1966 and on, that makes a lot of sense. I also agree with you that for 1965 the dealer code should be 36A-002 for Ken O'Keefe Ford, and will leave the hyphen if I decide to order a Marti Ownercard repo, as it is in the original Ownercards I have seen from the same dealer.
