Topic: Dual Redline Tires

I need to purchase dual redlines for my 66 K fastback.  Are the U.S. Royals through Coker the best/most correct option short of finding originals/NOS? Will any points be lost in concours driven for using these tires?

Your only alternative is the Coker reproduction.  Unfortunately, they pale in comparison to originals, but will not cost you any points in the MCA Concours classes.

I thought I'd read somewhere about a possible rule change re: dual redlines.  Is there any credence to that?

Those are the only ones being reproduced in the original bias ply style.

Only rule change we had discussed concerning tires had to do with requiring the proper OEM brand.  I believe there were some reproduction Firestone red lines made in the early 80's in New Zealand.  U.S. Royal was the only OEM supplier for red lines in 65-66.  The discussion included all years and tire types also, not just 65-66.

Also, I should point out that if you have a car in Concours Driven class, comparable size radials are allowed with no deduction.  The brand is not as important in that class as Trailered level cars.

I am leaning towards showing my car in concours driven rather than trailered.  In having a driven car, I think a radial would be better/safer than a bias-ply. That said, I just spoke to Coker tires and the only dual redline currently available is a BFG in a 205/70/14.  Would these be acceptable (no point deduction) in the concours driven class?

So, has the MCA made the descission concerning tire BRAND in Concours Trailered?-I was under the impression that they had not?

And....in Concours Driven then Radials are Ok, and no points deduction will be made provided the tires are of the same size as the originals? does the size of the white walls matter then? what do the judges typically want to see on a Concours Driven car?

We haven't made any changes regarding tire brand, but I would consider it fair game for a judge to deduct or make a comment as they see fit.

Regarding the 205 size tires, I'm guessing Fred suggested there would be a deduction since they are about 2 sizes higher than what is considered a comparable size to the 6.95x14.  IIRC, the conversion is closest to a 185/70R14.
