Correct wheels for 65 K coupe
« on: February 09, 2011, 03:02:02 PM »
Can someone tell me what wheels are correct for a 65 K coupe, plain jane car, no GT built August 20 1964 so I can remove the old cragers and get the right wheels on the car.
Thank you

The standard wheel would have been the same for any other V8, a plain steel wheel, painted black.  Styled Steel wheels were optional at that time, again, on any V8.

The only thing different about K code wheels/tires was that 4 ply red line tires were standard equipment.

So the plain steel rims were not special for disc brake cars?

Not for 65/66.

I am a huge fan of the wheel covers with the spinners.

Something isn't right.  In 1968, I had a 65 GT, and when I had to put the spare on the front, the wheel locked up against the disk rotor.  I was told back then that the drum-brake wheels were different than the disk wheels.  Now obviously, someone had replaced my spare tire/wheel, so what did I have as the spare?

I've run into the problem before, but didn't pay much attention to the type of wheel or date codes.  There's no mention of a disc brake wheel in the '65 or '66 single year MPC's.
