Sprint 200 A/C Compressor
« on: August 07, 2011, 08:08:37 PM »
Would the A/C compressor on a '66 Sprint have a double groove pulley, even though only one was used? Anyone have pictures of a 6 cylinder application?

I found an illustration in my 1966 Electrical Assembly Manual page 53. It shows two different clutch assembly applications: The first looks like a single groove Pitts Clutch Assembly; the other looks like  a double groove Warner Clutch Assembly. Would the Pitts clutch have been used for installations without power steering, and the Warner clutch for those with power steering?

Looking at the pictures I would say no dual pulley

It has been sometime ago but, I worked on a 1965 Mustang 6 Cly with AC and I think the clutch was a dual grove pulley on the compressor. I'd check with Classic Auto Air. I'm sure they can be of help.

My 66 Sprint also has a single pulley on the compressor.

Thanks for the info, I am the guy with Sprint, that Pete was searching about the compressor pulley.

The reason I was wondering, was my Mustang Restoration Manual, showed three types of pulleys and all showed as two belt ones.

Thanks again Pete!  :)

Hey Terry,

Glad you finally made it here!  ;) You won't find a better source of info - or a better bunch of folks.

Kevin has a MCA Gold winning Sprint. You can learn allot from studying his pictures.

If its the book I'm thinking of its because that is pretty much just a reformating of allot of info from the 72 or 75 illustrated parts catalog so it has replacement/service parts info not what was originally used (what Ford was supplying at the time that would fit) ;)

I added on factory A/C onto my six and after hunting down
and buying parts I have seen that all the 6 cyl A/C applications
used a two groove clutch pulley whether they had power steering
or not. The belt configuration is different on PS and non PS applications.
My car has power steering so I have a small belt that runs from
the compressor to the alternator. Non PS doesn't use the second
groove on the clutch pulley but goes around the wp and crank pulleys.

Kevin

You have a two groove pulley pictured but you
are just using one groove, you must not have
power steering on your car.

Your absolutely correct. I was thinking one thing, and typed another. The car does not have power steering.

Thanks for clarifying.
