Sprint 200 Dash Plaque
« on: August 13, 2011, 06:54:30 AM »
Part of the Sprint package was a dash plaque that the dealership would engrave with the owners name. I've been looking for these for some time now; since Sprint Registry moderator, Tony Kovar, posted a picture back in the Sprint Standard Equipment thread some time ago.

Well they finally came up for sale on Ebay at:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-1949-1950-1951-1952-1953-1954-1955-Dash-Plaque-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem35b456fed4QQitemZ230658866900QQptZVintageQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

I don't know how many the seller has, but I ordered one and it looks to be in great condition. I thought other Sprint owners may be interested as well.

Hey Pete, Thanks for the link, I just bought one myself! Of course my next question is where on the dash do they go? Also was there a certain style of engraving that was done on them?

Since each dealership was responsible for the engraving and placement of the plaque, I'd expect some variation. There were hundreds of dealers. And I haven't seen any Ford bulletins that would communicate a specific protocol.

That being said, perhaps Tony can provide some details about the "typical" treatment.

Holy Smokes!  Get'em while they are hot!!  Nice find Pete!

These are super rare Original Ford Plaques! I just bought 3 of them!

The guy even has Super rare Falcon ones too!

Get 'em now, before they are gone!

Talk about coming out of the woodwork!!!

To answer the question about the correct fonts and scripting.. There was no rhryme or reason or correct way.  The selling Ford dealer would have them done by sending them out to a local Key cutter shop or jeweler to have them engraved. This was probably done on a monthly or bi-monthly basis for customers.  Its possible that the selling dealer could have had an engraver machine on the dealership site, but I doubt it, though that possibilty though limited, does still exist, but not likely.

Interestingly enough...The plaque that says "Made Especially for" was mostly used at the introduction and launching for the 1964 1/2 Mustang.  The ones without the "Made Especially for" were used in the Sprint 200's.  Of course both of them were used in other Fords as well.  I bought 2 of each! Wonder if he has more??

I got mine in the mail yesterday, it looks real good, a little tarnished from age but that was all. I think I am going to frame it as a display with the warranty registration card and window sticker, which both are repros, but I still think will look nice
