69-70 console ashtray
« on: February 05, 2010, 06:33:57 PM »
So looking up the ashtray for the shelby console has a C9ZZ-B part number, so I assume it is a Shelby unique item?  Is there anything that is close to the original to fill the hole till one can be found?

Dave I believe there is but for the life of me I can not remember the source this moment. I know they are sometimes sold on EPay as original's from time to time :(

Maybe someone else will recall - sorry

I'm thinking it was a early to mid 60's corvette ash tray, even the top ring can be had from a place like Corvette American or Paragon? some small differences like the very small ashtray light holes missing and the top knob is a different shape. You would have to paint the lid and ring black as they come in a chrome finish.

I found them being used in the r.v. conversion industry about 10 years ago. I purchased about a couple dozen of them. The knob is a little different than orig.  I was always going to have the knob reproduced and sell them but have not gotten around to it yet.

Went out to the Ecklers site and found these two ashtray.  Tell me which one looks closer

1958-60 Corvette

And the 60-62 Corvette

I don't know if they are the same size or not.  I think I will buy one of each and see if they fit.  Which one looks closer to the Shelby piece, in your opinion?

No good closeups of the actual item, so I'm sure the light holes would need to be drilled. Could ask for some better pics if interested.

No, that ash tray is for the back of a mustang console or possibly a repro 68 shelby console. two different styles vs the 69-70. The 58-60 corvette is as close as your going to find. The shelby knob is the same for a buick application, not 100% sure but I remember buying some from a buick guy in a reproduction. I'll try to find out just were.

The knob [comes in ivory, so you'll need to paint it black] is from "Chev's of the 40's", [877]-735-0587 item# 4116779A @$11.00 each, application is for 1940-1948 chev rear ash tray knob.
