HELP 69 /70 tail light panel, exhaust cutout, and roll bar
« on: July 27, 2013, 11:24:56 AM »
I am adding the Shelby stuff to the rear of my 70 convertible. The car is at the body shop now and I need pictures and tips on the mounting process and locations of these parts.

What needs to be cut on the original tail light panel? Is there a filler piece for the top?

I need measurements and pictures for the exhaust cut out location.

And finally I need measurements and pictures to where the roll bar mounts.

Thanks
Mike

Filler piece ??? IF I understand your question no, the upper edge of the taillight panel remains

I Don't have any pictures (sorry didn't take any when we cut the last one) Suggest you make a pattern from the manifold - compare the measurements to the exhaust tip ( for a little wiggle room). Center the final measurements on the rear valance and cut- enlarge or trim if needed  - out was just fine first cut

And finally I need measurements and pictures to where the roll bar mounts.

Sorry no pictures of the base of a convertible roll bar. fastback/sportroofs are easier - you just bolt it to the room mounts and everything else falls into place

Good luck

Great picture - have found it helpful in showing these details. Never seem to time my visits (always covered or removed) on other convertibles I've visited or have pictures of

Thanks for posting it :)

You're welcome Jeff.  Glad I could contribute something helpful since you and others have helped me so often.

I should say my car contributed.  It is a rust-free original california car.  I am amazed how solid the car is every time I dig into a sub-assembly.  I wasn't sure if those foam pads in the photo were original or not, but I guess they are if you used it as a reference.  I've never seen that section of an original convertible before so I wouldn't know what is or is not original.

Foam pads are not typical . That doesn't mean that I would suggest removing  them .They may help with reinforcing the backside of the interior panel . In any event they are not seen once the panel is installed .
