Title: Power steering centerlink
Post by: MattDoscher on March 21, 2016, 12:06:10 PM
I'm trying to find out if the '65 6cyl Falcon power steering centerlink would work underneath a '65 6cyl Comet.  I was referencing my shop manual's body dimensions section and it seems like the Mustang was more narrow than the Comet in '65 so I have doubts that a Mustang centerlink would work.  I don't know how the Falcon compared.  I have a '65 Mustang and '65 Comet in my garage so I guess I can measure both manual steering centerlinks to see how they compare.  I'm just unsure of the Falcon and was wondering if anyone here had a '65 6cyl Falcon w/ power steering and could share their dimensions or happened to know the answer.

thanks,
Matt

65 model year and older, your Comet & Falcons are "sister cars" (year-by-year. FWIW: 66-69 Comet same as Fairlane, again, year-for-year)
COMET by Mercury
FALCON by Ford

Trim items differ significantly but your major components should be all the same.

Naturally, for Concours, you should consult your Master Parts Catalog to be absolutely sure there were not running changes but usually, if you stick really close within the same year, you ought to be OK.

The 65-72 MPC for L-M shows C4DZ 3304-B for '65 Comet 200 P/S. The Ford 65-72 MPC shows the same part number for '65 Falcon 200 P/S. Those are the only two applications [in either book] shown using that part number. It's possible other applications may have used C4DZ-B prior to '75 when these MPCs were printed - you'd have to look through OSI or MCRL books to find out. Also, these are service P/Ns, the production P/Ns are not listed in the MPCs.
