Title: 67 Dearborn 390 GT Fastback Carb and Radiator Questions
Post by: Rossco on July 03, 2017, 04:03:52 PM
Afternoon

Could some tell me the correct pump diaphragm to get for the Holley carburetor 4v on a 390 GT 1967 fastback I have been on the Holley web site and just need some advise on which one to purchase.

Also coming back from a show she blew her original radiator out 10 minutes from home just wondered if I can, or you know where to purchase a FOMOCO replacement please
The guy that I purchased her from said she ran a little on the warm side is this normal?

Whatever you do don't throw that old one out, the best recourse might be rebuild.  I'm interested myself in hearing the options.

+1 .  The 67 390 replacement radiator from most vendors is going to be typically a 68-70 style size. 67 was a one year only narrower width. You can  recore and also get to use the same original fan shroud . Original 67 BB fan shrouds = big $$$$or repro much less $. You can upgrade to a 68-70 style which looks virtually identical except slightly wider width (given the same plant) but will have to get a 68-70 fan shroud . Original 68-70  fan shroud big $$$ or repro much less $ . All other things etc. fit the same regardless of rad used. The larger radiator cools much better all things being equal and unless the entire car is restored concours for shows the larger rad is the way to go for a car that is driven IMO. Especially a 390 that if rebuilt more then likely has a tendency to run hot. FYI a good replacement 68-70 radiator is going to be much less then recore of a original 68-70 BB radiator.   Original 68-70 rads needing to be recored still bring big money relatively speaking. 67 BB cores are a little less. Just a few options from someone who has been there and done that. Others may have different ideas.

Fits better in the 67-8 section since its not Dearborn specific nor is it related to production practices

Just in case you wonder why its being moved ;)

I believe the lower radiator brackets were also different between the '67 and '68 big block Mustangs - with slightly different mounting locations as well...

Thank you for bringing that up since I had forgotten about those. The lower mounts should be changed for best results . The lower brackets are available reproduction however the later radiator can be made to work even with the 67 style mounts.

Thanks Bob and everyone Ill try and get her re cored It shouldn't be a problem over here in the UK

Has anyone got any ideas why the radiator would have blown and I did stop all most immediately so I am hoping there is no damage to the engine
Although you are right again Bob the engine has been rebuilt so I assume that is the cause of the engine running warm

Depends, if or how much, the cylinders were bored out.

I have a few of these floating around but don't know which year - does someone have pictures comparing the two or a description?  That would be appreciated.  The 67 MPC calls it C7ZZ 8052-A.

This ebay auction is for some repro 67 lower mounts but they look very close. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1967-Mustang-GT-GTA-Cougar-Shelby-390-Lower-steel-Radiator-Mounts-Frame-mounts-/372003992618   .
