Title: Intake manifold marking - 68 J code
Post by: tim_morrison82 on July 16, 2017, 04:02:53 AM
Hi guys. Long time since I've posted... But here is something I found when moving parts around and not sure if this is factory, etc...

I have an AT marked at the rear of the intake manifold. It's from an automatic transmission car so it makes sense. But I am not sure if this is typical or not. Can anyone please clarify for me. It's a November built San Jose J code engine. Cheers

Don't recall seeing or finding that mark on a 68 small block though it has been seen many times on 65-66 289's. A number of examples can be seen in the picture in the library with all the engine waiting to be loaded at the Cleveland engine plant

I'm guessing you already checked the casting date to confirm the intake is from that engine

Just checking

I have seen it several times before on 1968 302s

I unbolted this from the original block with the original gasket in place. It's not an easy spot to observe.

I've seen it on manual transmission engines also, so do not believe AT designates auto trans.
