65-67 deluxe door panel fingertip pull cups

(1/1)

67gta289:
The attached file documents what I found when comparing various deluxe door panel fingertip pull cups and appurtenances.

At first this was going to be a 1967 only document, but then I found some C5 parts in the pile, from years of collecting I suppose, and those C5 parts were supplanted by C7 parts.  This led me to expand the document to 65-67.

Keep in mind that I'm a novice for 65-66 details compared to 67, and my parts collection for pre-67 is limited.  The resulting file is therefore not an exhaustive study.  I do state where I lack information and knowledge, and as always look forward to correction, clarification, and additional information.

Very good. The dimensions of the screws can be obtained from the AMK Guide To Ford Fasteners (or the appropriate spreadsheets in the Forum's Library).
For the inserts, I believe that Ford's suppliers used the same set of molds for all colors, cleaning the molds between color changes, so the part number marked on the item did not include the color "dash number". The Ford part number and logo are the only way to identify genuine parts. In my pile of stuff, I have one Scott Drake insert (bag dated 3/1/2011) and it has the screw head recesses and the notches at the ends. It matches the used Ford inserts I have dimensionally.
I also have 8 cups, all from 65-66 Mustangs. I assume they are original, the metal bottoms are rusty on all and I've have them for well over 20 years, which, I believe, would be prior to reproductions being made. There is no visible ID markings on any.

Thanks Jim.  For the 65-66 cups, do they look like the ones I pictured, referencing the curves and other features?  If not, can you post pictures?  If they do look the same, can you provide some dimensions so I can compare to my 67 ones?

An interesting thought on the mold and color changes, makes perfect sense.

The bare steel in my cups had surface rust also, I used Rust911 to clean them up.

Great effort John

Thanks for sharing

Bob Gaines:
I will be very interested to see how the blanks in your study are filled in. Thank you for the effort.
