Rawhide Zipper Pull??
« on: July 31, 2009, 02:56:10 PM »
Just curious as to how many folks with '64.5-'66 Convertibles have a rawhide pull on the zipper fly for the rear window?? I have found the correct color which is Black Oil-Rubbed and it takes about an 8" length to duplicate the installation as I've seen in pictures of a NOS setup.

Anyone have any info on this? Charles shared a picture of an NOS window still in the package with me clearly showing this pull, like I said I went and found the correct color and now have a very classy pull on my zipper fly!

So, Are we thinking it may be plant specific like the deal with the rear window stamp? besides being more correct to me, I think the pull makes my window/zipper/fly more classy!

The 68 Shelby's I've seen them on were of course Metuchen and the 69/70 Shelby cars were Dearborn . So there is at least 2. Bob

A picture of an installed original along with a description of specifics would add greatly to this discussion.  As an example, "the leather pull is XXX in color, is XXX inches overall length, is of a XXX cross sectional profile (square, round, oblong or ?), the knot is a XXX type knot, and the leather is of XXX diameter.  Many agree this was part of an original car and most who are on this thread would like to duplicate the leather pull if we knew the details.

Charles, Hey, Thanks a million for posting the picture!! I was trying to find it in the old email you sent me but couldn't.

For anyone who wants the specifics: It is Black Oiled 3/16" and it takes about 8-10" to duplicate what it looks like in Charles' picture, it is available in 72" lengths from www.emocs.com it is the same stuff they use on Baseball gloves, I got mine from these folks-great folks to deal with I might add, and if anyone wants a 8-10" length I'll send you one....I've got enough for 3-4 more cars just sitting here......Rick

9/20/09 830am: All the pulls are spoken for! If anyone needs one may be you can order a 72" length from the leather supplier I listed then cut your 10" length from it and then pass on the rest as I did with my extra!!

Like I say you want the 3/16" Black Oiled color.

UPDATE:9/24/09: I sent the last 10" length to Jim Lane and like the others there was no charge to him for this but he made a very generous donation to me for my efforts, so with his permission I will order several more lengths (and try & get a discount) and once again send them out to anyone that asks.
This is really a nice touch to the convertible cars!!

How late have we confirmed that this pull was used? '73 may be?
