Title: Power Steering Ram Finish
Post by: austr6 on February 05, 2017, 04:04:18 PM
Hello, I am after the CORRECT finish for my 66 SJ GT Power Assist Hydraulic ram...... is it just raw metal or was it a painted finish.
Kind regards,
Richard.

As this is an exposed item and under the car, I believe semi-gloss black would be the color, at least that's what has past MCA judging for me. If so, I would be more inclined to use more a glossy black.

Bare like in other years for the ram part of the PS assembly. Early original example below. Believe I included how to finish (at least how I've done it successfully) is shown in a number of threads but basically strip it , get the metals back to looking new, soften them with gun blueing (I redo the dark heat bands over the welds and tube metal near by)  then work them back with steel wool, then oil/protect
