Title: 2006 Oil Pan Plug
Post by: midlife on October 14, 2010, 10:34:20 PM
I'm finally past the extended warranty on my 2006 GT, and changed the oil myself.  The previous mechanic "gorilla'ed" the oil pan plug on; I had to use a breaker bar to get it loose.  The torque setting is 19 ft-lbs.  There was no plastic or metal washer beneath the shoulder of the bolt, and I'm not experiencing any drips.  I checked the FSM and it doesn't have details of the bolt.

Question: should there be a washer for the oil pan plug?

on my V-6 there is a rubber seal built in to the plug. not sure about the V-8 though.

I don't recall one on my 09 but I'll try to remember to check next time I change the oil.  It will be a few months though.

Decided to change my oil before it got too cold.  No seal that I found and this is only the second time the oils been changed.  Also if you look closely at the shoulder of the bolt it seems like it has a machined surface maybe to get a better seal without a gasket.

On a side note does the oil pain seem really thin to you?  I am kind of wondering if  eventually I will strip the plug.  Also the drain seems very high in the side of the pan.  I doubt you get all the oil out that way.

Thanks for the confirmation.  Yes, the pan seems thin, and I'm leery of stripping the pan.
