« on: July 28, 2015, 03:33:54 AM »
Hi. Just wondering if someone has pictures of the black silicone areas under the car.
67 fastback San Jose.
Cheers

No silicon was used on the cars

A black sealer was used at the floor to rocker seam and around the inner seat belt anchors (3 or all sides)

Other areas would be under sound deadener in the rear wheel wells. The areas above would be above the red oxide floor colors

There is one more location it may have been applied but that would depend on when the car was built.

If you can provide me with when the car was built then I can look for examples from that same time. No reason wasting time looking at cars built in other periods or months ;)

Thanks Jeff.
Car was built 26 June 67.
Just a little confused as to whether the black sealer was painted over with red oxide or the black is visible?
Thanx as always.

Standard/normal sealant applied to the floor pan to other items was added after the floor color was applied

At the four inner seat belt anchor plates

Rocker panel to floors

At rear pockets - rocker in the rear pocket

Trunk drop to quarter panel spot weld surface

Is there a "Actually Built" date range that applies to the pictures shown above?
Would this apply to a first week of March SJ car?

Believe of the four pictures offered as typical examples of the application of before or after red oxide - the first three are from the same car and the last one from another. They were from all late in the year cars as requested and chosen for their clarity for the question of over or under the red oxide

Now having "actual build dates" on all of the cars I have pictures/examples of sealer for would just add allot more work than I have time and effort for in the foreseeable future. Since it would require that I get the Ford/Marti info for thousands of cars. I can cross check with the Shelbys for dates but that leaves out maybe 70% of the examples so your not really getting a complete picture or at least as much as possible.

Here are a few examples of the pattern and area of coverage of the sealer for close to the 1st week of March 67 at San Jose. Sorry don't have exact real build dates on these cars but the sequential numbers would be pretty close to your cars

My bold.

I'm getting ready to apply rear wheel well coating and here:

from this 67 SJ rear wheel well thread:

I see no sealant at the outer rear seat belt anchor. And, you appear to mention just the inner anchor plates on purpose.

What about these rear outer anchors? Are they sealed or is the rear wheel well coating supposed to act as a sealant (and it didn't really work)?

Yes I try to be specific when I can.

The rear outer seat belt anchors were not sealed line inner ones (chalked then brushed after the painting all took place)

The overspray from the rear wheel well application of sound deadener is not consistent enough IMHO to suggest that one of its side benefits was to seal the anchors. Here are three patterns that may suggest that certain workers each had their own typical practices.

One where the sound deadener does not get to the anchor and barely any frame rail or floor in that area.

Couple  where the worker caught only the edge of the bracket/ anchor but coated the frame. Possibly stood more towards the side of the pit or used a different hand.

Couple of examples where the worker appears to have made a short pass that resulted in coating of the anchor and frame rail as well as surrounding floor section.

Hopes this helps

Thanks Jeff.

The red-headed step-child of anchors!

The weld and sealant manual (pg 185) calls out for the same sealant here, just like the inners, but that practice wasn't followed much. Like a bunch of other things.
