Exhaust
« on: May 18, 2010, 01:51:29 AM »
Which exhaust system would be considered correct for a November 64 San Jose A code? My car has a single exhaust on it but I am not sure if it is factory correct. I was wondering if there was a factory dual exhaust available for this car or if it was only available on K code cars? The NPD catalog appears to only specify a dual exhaust system for a HIPO car. One application specifies 289 HIPO before 10/64 (12/64 on San Jose cars), and the other specifies 289 HIPO after 10/64 (arvinode). It is kind of confusing. I really would like to put dual exhausts on this car, but if it was not offered as an option, I'll leave the single exhaust on it.

A code 289 would be single exhaust.

Dual exhaust was only available from the factory on K codes at that time.Depending on when in Nov your car was made it may or may not have had a resonator in the intermediate pipe.

OK, this clears up a few questions that  I have had. I would suppose that dual exhausts were not available on A code cars until the GT showed up in early 65. How are points affected on early A code cars with dual exhaust when being judged?

Since everything is different (except for maybe a couple of clamps) I think you will be looking at loosing all or 90% of the points possible in the originality section of the sheets

Condition  and how clean stuff is a different consideration
