Air Con Bar Dash Spacer
« on: May 30, 2016, 10:43:12 AM »
Hi all,
I came across this item on the NPD site. They have a different one listed for both 65 and 66 with a varying lower profile. Was this originally a factory part? I'm asking as my wife's 65 does not have it in her owner installed original 65 air con system. Is it just to fill the gap between the air con register and the dash? Has anyone got any pictures of one installed?

Thanks in advance,

Dan.

Dan : If for some reason you have the "earlier" Hang-On (first picture attached), it would not have the spacer (which is really noted as a "Brace"). If you have a 1966 unit, it should definitely have it. If you have a true 1965 unit, I'm not sure. The reason I say this, is that even though the Illustration from the 1960-68 MPC shows the Brace (19C604) as supplied in the A/C Kit only, that number does not show up in the Text Sections of the 1960-68 MPC, the 1965-72 MPC, nor the 1966 MPC. It does, however, show up in the 1966 Electrical Assembly Manual as "C6ZA-19C761-A"(this number did not show up in any of the MPC's, nor in any of the OSI books that I have). This says one of two things to me; either it was not part of the 1965 Kit, or it had a "C5" part number. Hopefully, someone with a 1965 Electrical Assembly Manual can confirm one or the other.

Hope this helps a t least some.

This should help - 6 examples of the 30-40 ones I have pictures of.

Of course one could have been left out if it was dealer installed but that was not apparently the plan or what Ford wanted to happen

Hope this answers your question

Just to add Dan, there is a difference between the '65 and '66 styles also. The '66 is taller where it spans the top of the a/c unit to the bottom of the dash. If you'd like a pic I'll dig out my '66 spacer (not installed in the car yet).

Hey Bob,
Thanks. That does help along with Jeffs pics - Thanks once again. the 65 styled one actually looks like the one pictured in your second diagram! - Go figure.

JK Wilson,
I think that for the good of the thread that it would be worth posting some pics of it on here as a separate part. Thanks for offering.

Here's a few pics of a '66 style for comparison Dan. As you can see the '66 appears to be a slight bit taller (though not much). It is also angled and straight across on the bottom where it meets the a/c unit. The '65 has a contour in the middle of it and (IIRC), was straight up.

Thanks. I got really lucky with it. I had a pretty nice '65 unit which someone had installed in my '66 fastback...and did it poorly. I was trying to figure out what to do to get a correct unit to install in my '66 coupe. While working one day I met a guy working on his '65 vert in his garage. Long story short, he had a '66 unit (the one you see) and was wondering what to do for his car. The rest is history! ;D

The chrome isn't 100% but it's pretty darn close with just a few small spots. The spacer didn't come with it, but I found an original on Ebay...cheap!
