WTB -C4 Transmission Case Components
« on: May 29, 2017, 01:20:58 AM »
Hi,

Looking to find the correct casting numbers for three C4 Transmission items I currently have to suit a 64 1/2 C4 (sched build date 03/24/64):
Transmission Case (casting number I have is  C6DP-7006 A)
Case plate (casting number I have is  C6AP-7D027-0)
Extension Housing (casting number I have is RFC6DP-7A040)

I'm guessing parts should contain a casting number starting with C4.
Regards,
Dom

Hi Dom, are you looking for a V8 or I6 C4?? I'm sure they are different, at least the part numbers on the case. I have an early case but can't remember which application its for. I can look for you tonight if you are still searching for these parts.

I didn't even bother to think if there was a difference, its for a 289.
Still looking so if you can check it out tonight I'd appreciate that, thanks.
I'm not to sure on exactly what the casting number should be, perhaps someone else knows.
Regards,
Dom

I'll have a look tonight as you have me wondering what I have as well. All my cars are stick shifts so this c4 is just holding my shelving down. It did come out of an early car that I purchased for other parts. But as you know, it doesn't mean it matches the car it came in.  ;) I'll PM you later this evening, either way.

Hey DOM, here are some pictures of the C4 tranny as promised. Hopefully you can id these part numbers and cross reference to it's exact application. I'll be curious to know what you find in your research.

Thanks for taking the time to post those pics Hipo giddyup, I appreciate it.
From looking at the casting numbers and date stamps I've come up with the following:
Case plate C40P-7D027-A and date stamp looks to be 12/64 (December 1964)
Case C5AP-7006 B and date stamp looks to be 11/64 (November 1964) I also see a 23 there so combined with the month and year may be 11/23/64 (my assumption)
Ext Housing C4AP-7A040-C-(R or B), can't see any noticeable date stamp
So IMO this C4 would be suited for a 65 with a scheduled build date from 12/64 to 02/65

Dom

No problem Dom. Thanks for letting me know what it is, but it looks like it won't be an exact match for your application. It took me over a year and a half to find the correct dated three speed to put back into my 64 1/2.
