GT TIPS
« on: October 30, 2010, 02:10:40 PM »
Hi Fellas
I wish to get the end of my exhaust system back to somewhere near correct. My GT tips were welded to the end of the 2" pipe.
I have cut them off and wondeed what the situation is with an original system.
Problem is I dont have any resonators either. I wonder if anyone can tell me if the socket end on a GT tip will fit over a 2" pipe or are the resonators necked down smaller at their ends.
If anyone has a GT tip off and can measure the ID of the socket that would be great.
I dont want to buy new GT tips and find they wont go over a 2" pipe.
I am concerned as the correct horseshoe clamp available for the tips is listed as fitting a 1 3/4"- 2" pipe.
Thank you

The socket end of an OEM exhaust trumpet will not fit over a 2" exhaust pipe.

The exhaust pipe/resonator is swedged down to approximately 1.75" or a bit less to fit inside the trumpet.

There are high flow trumpets available that will fit over 2" exhaust pipe but I doubt if the horseshoe clamps will fit over these.

I used reproduction horseshoe clamps and had to spread them slightly to get them to fit over original trumpets.  The trumpet pipe OD where the horseshoe clamp is located is just over 1.9" on the trumpets on my car.

Thank you for that info - it is exactly what I needed to know to make a choice.
