289 Flywheel locating dowel pins????
« on: November 26, 2011, 11:47:16 PM »
Did all the 289s have locating dowel pins on the flywheel? I have come across a few that are missing and curious if this is normal.

Do the shouldered type pressure plate bolts, eliminate the need for these dowels as they locate the position?

Any feedback would be appreciated........Cheers

289 engines do not use dowel pins like Chevrolets do. The bolt pattern is such that you can only bolt the flywheel on in one position. The shouldered bolt on the pressure plate is all that is necessary to intall it properly. I would highly recommend new pressure plate bolts as they are not all that large compared to other manufactures and can break from over torquing.
