69/70 Rear suspension parts inquiry
« on: October 09, 2020, 05:32:13 PM »
Hey folks,
Does anyone have a catalog of what rear suspension parts were available back in 1969/70 for mustang and cougar?
I'm looking for anything that would list part numbers and descriptions besides what the mpc shows
Thanks
Edit-
I have seen several references in both the Ford and Lincoln Mercury MPC that state 'see the appropriate muscle car catalog'
Anybody know what this is referring to? I have seen several muscle car catalogs online, but they only appear to discuss engine modifications.

Not certain of what, right at this moment, would be in the Muscle parts catalog as far as suspension. Guess possibly gear sets and lockers and the like.

Don't recall ever seeing a reference to the "appropriate muscle car catalog" in an MPC but maybe just over looking it. Don't use them as much as I use to.

Is there something in particular that your looking for?

The 1970 Performance Buyers Digest has items and part numbers but its more of a show room-type brochure. I have an original copy and there is next to nothing about rear suspension parts except traction bars and gear ratios for various models.

Knowing which motor/suspension package came with the car should narrow the field a bit ?  Disc brakes or drum, power steering or not ?  Knowing this stuff and asking who has what may be the way to go ?  The build sheets contain a small amount of info.  Brian

Those catalogs are really all about engines.
The 69 Muscle catalog lists  only a paragraph on suspensions and only discusses [rear] traction bars and a rear mount battery.
Later is a list of gear sets available and a Detroit Locker.
That's all I see in that one. The last one I have in that era is the O.H.O (Off Highway Only) and it's pretty much the same tale.

Autolite put out a High Performance Parts catalog from about 1965 - 1971. It includes all sorts of suspension part numbers, shocks, etc. I only have the 1968 version. It is maybe 70 pages with no illustrations but there is a price list.

If you knew what specifically you were looking for maybe we could help.

Forgot all about that MPC insert. Have copies from a couple of years now that I think of it. None from 69 or 70

There was a guy at the Columbus All Ford show in the mid - 1990's with several large moving boxes full of brand new 1968 versions like the one I own. He was selling them for $1 each. I bought mine there. Lots of folks were lined up to buy them too. Wish I had bought many things back then. I know now what became frightfully expensive and hard to find!
