66 NJ Hipo Choke Cable Routing - Under dash
« on: June 03, 2020, 06:55:17 PM »
NOTE: This post was split from another thread focusing on 66 San Jose routing. Since they may differ its important to keep them separate as others will search, find and read the thread its important to them the original routing.

Sorry to dig up an old post but not finding my answer. I’m using a hipo clone carburetor on my 66 coupe and I am routing the manual choke cable per the 66 mustang electrical assembly manual diagram, page 37. The answer I’m looking for, does the choke cable go behind the fresh air duct or in front of it and up over the pedal support? Also, I have the small tab hole to secure the bracket under the left-hand side of the dash, but I do not have the hole to add the screw and nut? Can anyone tell me that whole size to drill?
Thanks! Bill

Oh, this coupe is originally from Metuchen, NJ  but since it’s not an original hipo the plant is not a big concern for me. An example of routing from each would be great for my knowledge. Thx!

Sorry I don't have an example handy and no pictures of the under dash area of a 66 NJ K code

Hopefully someone else will.

No worries Jeff. Even though its not a K code, I figured why not have the cable routed and in the correct location anyway. I will ask folks on the HIPO forum to see. In the meantime, I found one pic on the web that shows the routing I was expecting, behind the fresh air vent. I also was using the incorrect hole! Likely one for fog lights or something.. Apeears the correct location is far left, over the angle bracket that welds the dash against the front sturcture. This will do until I can verify how the NJ cars had their choke cables routed.

One more question, I assume all holes would be punched from the factroy? I'll have to look at my dash again but very certain I had only one hole instead of two in this area. One for the bolt, the other for the tab to keep it straight.
