Ordered a new one. Should be here for pickup later today. Saving the old Bendix for rebuild.

One other thing you might check is to make sure you don't have the front calipers crossed. This is easy to do as there is no rt. & lt. stamping. The easiest way to check is if the bleeder valves are facing up they are crossed and if they are facing down they are correct. This will give the sympton you are describing and is worth a look if you have not already. Failing master cylinders normally will pump up and have brake and fade slowly as you press on the brake.

Chris that is a good description of the problem. Uh if I'm not mistaken the blessed screws are pointing up. I will take a pic and post tonight to show what I have. Thanks

Well I verified it....pointing up. I remember what a pain it was to bleed with the hose going up out of the bleeder screw. So I just switch them from side to side? Well I guess less potential for a mess then taking off the master cylinder. I read the shop manual and there is no mention of the possibility for this. All I could find was an illiustration with two part numbers labeled RH and LH caliper. See pic. Also lets get opinions on rear brakes to make sure they are correct before I adjust the star wheel. Thanks guys for helping along this shade tree mechanic. By the way what my friend the mechanic must have done is adjust the pads so that the tabs on the pads were set as shown in the last pic. I know I didn't bend them out like this

Ok verified a local 68 and his bleeder screw location matches mine. Looks like calipers mounted correctly.

Well swapped the calipers around so now waiting for helper to bleed the brakes. Hope this solves the problem. Noticed bleeder is in the same location but now pointing straight back versus up.

Brakes got bled and were solid. No air in lines. Started up car and with it in park steped on the brakes. The pedal stopes about an inch and you hear and feel through the pedal a click and then the pedal stops. Is this normal. Turned the engine off. Stepped on the brake pedal again and it's solid from the get go. Does this travel and click mean anything bad?

It sounds like the travel is going down far enough to trip the brake light switch. Is the brake light on?

Chris I presume you mean the one on the dash. Haven't noticed it but then I need to find a new red lens. It either fell inside the cluster or I lost it. Is it possible to just buy it separately. With The engine running once the pedal clicks it feels solid. I will try measuring the travel to the point where it clicks and stops. Seems that booster is working as there is more travel with engine running. By the way thanks chris for the rh lh mix-up possibility. I did have them reversed. Much easier to bleed them now.
