Title: 1973 Evaporative Emissions canister question -
Post by: fourfords on July 07, 2017, 05:53:43 PM
Greetings, new to the forum.
I am currently searching for a 71 - 73 Convertible.
My question is, the cars I have found (mostly online) some have emissions canisters and some do not.
Even cars that appear very original may or may not have the canister.
Did all 73's come with canisters or not?

Thanks,
Fred

Not sure if all export or 6 cylinder Mustangs in 73 received the evap system. Believe 6 cylinders did but would have to check the emission books that aren't handy at the moment

My AMA Specs for 73 show "All Engines" to have the carbon canister.

From the 73-77 MPC

D1AZ-9B328-A fuel vapor separator assembly fits most 73 Ford products including all Mustangs.  No exceptions. Not conclusive but a reference point.

Yes, the vapor separator plus the non-vented fuel cap is the give away.

For 1971-73, we often find the charcoal canisters missing, but the rest of the vapor lines and what not, are still present.

Just what I suspected.
Other than ebay does anyone know where to get one?
I am in negotiations on a car that is missing the canister and bracket.
I know the lines and hoses are available.

Thanks,
Fred

Yards +  wanted ads on sites like this (any place that will let you. Also check with the NOS sellers. They may not have been enticed to keep such a slow moving part but if they do you might luck out

Might want to check with West Coast Cougars and see what they have available ;)

Hi Fred

I looked to see WHERE you are located (in profile) BEFORE offering to send to you.

The 73 is "larger" than the 71 version (used on the Boss and 429 cars).

Let me know where you are.
Mark

Hate to leave things hanging, I was busy with a family members health issues.
I purchased a canister on ebay. Come to find out the line from the tank to the canister is missing.
Anyone have photos of where it runs. I have a rubber hose on the the top of the tank and that's about it.

Thanks

Did you get pictures of the lines from the front to the back?  If not, let me know and I will get you some.  Mike
