69 dash VIN question
« on: April 26, 2010, 09:33:15 PM »
My 69 DEARBORN R code VIN tag that is mounted on the dash is faded out from the sun, you can still barely see a ford logo and elliptical like circles that border the numbers on the outside edge. This appears to be some type of silk screen process and is not stamped or engraved in like the numbers are. The rest of the part is bare tin except for this black & gold border. Does anyone restore these or know of a way to duplicate this?

Don't know anyone currently doing the screening and many owners would not choose to mess with their original mounting rivets.

I've used the sticker/decal that is available for this by carefully trimming the center out of the decal right at the edge of the black detail. Also need to trim the edge at the edge of the metal producing a sharp clean edge

Once installed and the windshield is in place you really can tell the different IMHO

Believe all the major Mustang parts houses do. Its a clear decal with the details applied to it - if you don't trim the center it does not attach well IMHO over the stamped VIN

Thanks JEFF, I found the decal in the NPD catalogue, never thought to look there.
