Hi,
Looking for the correct (NOS) oilpressure sensor for my 67 with tachmeter (+ speedometer incl. tripometer)
(with oilpressure warning lamp)

Great to post a source/pictures + part number

289, small bock, C4 automatic

Saw a lot of different (repro) types, but all with description only for tach (pic# 1 and 2)

Picture #3 shows mine (cable not connected), not sure if this is really the correct unit. However, the warning lamp is not working, even with cable connection. Assume unit has a defect (cable works, see pic #4).

According to the January 67 version of the MPC (attached) you are looking for the B6A-9278-B, and not the much more common C6SZ-9278-A used on the cars with gauges instead of lights.

The 65-72 MPS also lists B6AZ-9278-B, with a supplementary number of SW-667.

The third picture is a purported NOS Motorcraft (not Autolite mind you) SW-667.

Hopefully someone with an original will chime in with information that will confirm, clarify or perhaps correct the information I gleaned from the MPCs

O.P.'s picture of the new one (so is John's NOS Motorcraft) is (are both) correct if based off what is found on my 11/66 built example.

The larger "Bell-Shaped" is for an oil guage dash, not "OIL Light" version that is used on the tach dash version.

I know of another member with a November 4th build date small block at this site, maybe he will chime in also with his knowledge.

Kind of a pain to find pictures since PS and AC was becoming more popular in 67

The small sender was used for the light (with tach) option

Confirming that the gauge used the bell style - here are some examples. As a side note this was the typical shape from what I can recall of the sending units seen in the 50's and early 60's Fords

Yes there are a few "creative" details in the pictures    ::)






Looking at the read reference it shows the following for replacements
SW-667 for the oil sender without tach and trip
SW-673 for oil sender with tach and trip

390 uses different sender

Did use the Cougar heading since the Mustang section of the book is a mess (unusable  ::)

Btw. My car has AC....any difference?


1. B6AZ-9278-A
SW-667, for oil sender with tach and trip
Warning Light 67 - 70: With Factory Tach, 289, 302, before 6.5.68


2. C7ZZ-9278-A
SW-673, for the oil sender without tach and trip
67- 68  With Gauge (without Factory Tach, With Spade Connector)



However, there is a difference to what Jeff is saying:
SW-667 for the oil sender without tach and trip
SW-673 for oil sender with tach and trip

vs.
What John has posted
The 65-72 MPS also lists B6AZ-9278-B, with a supplementary number of SW-667, with tach and trip odometer.

I'm confused ....;-)

The large bell shaped style is for a gauge to show a range of pressure on the gauge . The small button sender is for a warning light also referred to for decades as a "Idiot light" (just what it is called). The small button one is not very complicated inside. When the oil pressure drops very low (I am not sure but I think under 5lbs of pressure) it makes a contact like a doorbell and lights the warning light bulb.

Yes true. The reason why I'm here. Lots of specialists around :-)

Nevertheless, you can go crazy if you do a search only by your own, not knowing exactly the details.....

The Ford Master Parts Catalog created all of the convoluted descriptions for the oil pressure sending units, and the alternator wiring harnesses too.
Bob got it right, big bell with analog gauge, smaller one for warning light.

Technically, it's the other way around. As oil pressure rises above the minimum (your 5psi is very probable) the switch is deactivated and the "idiot" light goes out. You are right about the rest.

Ralf, that is not mine, I found it on eBay.  It was active at the time of my post, not sure now.

A Motorcraft version of this part is not particularly difficult to find.

My question is why in the world does the "tripodometer" has anything to do with what oil pressure sending unit is needed?
