Rare Interior codes 56 & 76
« on: January 09, 2011, 03:33:50 PM »
Recently i found a 65 mustang here in germany that was for sale. The strange thing was the interior code:

not many mustang books list this code. The classic mustang dataplate decoder provides this information:
76 - Black Crinkle Vinyl and Black Cord Pattern Cloth, Standard Interior

i talked to the owner and he told me that the recent interior is newly upholstered and the old upholstery didn't look special either - he meantioned it didn't look as it was the original one. here are some pics of the recent interior:

can anybody tell/show me how this interior should look like?

i remember the interior code 56, which i thought was the cloth interior. This code isn't listet in any mustang book and also the decoder doesn't list it. i have some pics from another forum from Jeff. Jeff, i hope i may post these ones. If not i'll delete them asap.

So can anyone tell me: how does 76 (and/or 79) look like and what's the difference to 56.
Are there any other nonfamous codes out there?

Thanks!
Paul

Paul,

Here's a link to some interior fabric info:
http://thecareandfeedingofponies.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html

Scroll to the bottom of the page for 1965.

As near as I can tell, the seat fabric combination is the same for the trim codes 56 & 76. The differences seem to be in the headliner material.

Here are a couple of shots (different cars) of original cloth inserts - Sorry don't have the door tag info to go along with these. The seat cover was taken from a very early fastback we owned back in the 70's

@Pete: Thanks for the information and for the link to the very interesting site! Didn't know it yet.
According to the list, only the headliner should differ - as you say.

@Jeff: Great to see another pic of the cloth interior! Looks like the horizontal lines would be the difference to the cloth from the pics i posted before.  Could this be the difference between 56 and 76? Although the link Pete listed shows only a difference in the headliner section...strange ???

Not sure - have seen the material you posted but always consider that a replacement/repair material. Yours does not seem to show any wear - IMHO odd for such an old car.

I thought that those pictures looked familiar! No problem with you using them,
I have that cover and door tag from a 64 1/2 coupe I saw in a junkyard about
10 years ago, it's the only one I have seen like it. Most I have seen have been
like the other picture. C5ZZ

Oh it were your pics! Thought they came from Jeff. I've checked the old thread and now i see that Jeff said "Steve asked me to post these pictures of his slightly different sample of an original"
Sorry for this mix-up! Thank you that i may use the pics!

@Jeff: You're right, i took a second look into "The Mustang and Cougar Tagbook" and what did i see? Code 56, Code 76, 79 and even 56A!  ;)
