Title: Restoring steel engine brackets
Post by: KevinK on May 25, 2016, 02:03:30 AM
I am trying to identify the correct finish on steel engine brackets. I suspect they may be a type of phosphate and oil. These have a sparkle finish to them. The color is fairly light gray.  I don't recall seeing this on the 60s parts. Maybe the sparkle is due to a blasted finish? Looking on suggestions on how to proceed.

No phosphating (there are a couple of different phosphating coatings) can produce an almost metallic finish in the right light before they are oiled. The oiling seems to reduce that effect and possibly why you don't see it often
